Program Cost

Phoenix Outdoor requires a minimum stay of 21 days in the program and parents will be billed in advance for the first 21 days. An average stay in a wilderness program is approximately 6 weeks, but a child may be there for more or less time depending on his or her progress. After the initial 21 day period, Phoenix will bill ahead on a weekly basis. Payment can be made by check, Visa or MasterCard. Assistance will be offered in filing any insurance paperwork as required for reimbursement.

A one-time enrollment fee covers utilization of complete outdoor gear and clothing specifically engineered for the prevailing climatic conditions, an intake physical and standard drug screen. Standard gear includes a professional grade backpack, a sleeping bag, a polar fleece jacket, rain gear, and hiking boots. Participants may take all clothing home upon their graduation from the program or donate it back to the program.

At intake, students are taken to Asheville for a physical examination and drug test prior to being cleared to join their group for a wilderness expedition.

As an optional service, parents may elect to have Phoenix Outdoor conduct comprehensive psychoeducational testing for an additional fee. A licensed psychologist will conduct the testing which includes extensive interviews with the student coupled with psychological, behavioral and cognitive assessments. Detailed reports will be prepared for the parents that will be discussed by the psychologist and delivered in writing.
