Traveling on Interstate 40 West
- Take Exit 73 – Old Fort
- Turn right at exit ramp light and then turn left on Main Street at the second stop light. There will be an old yellow train passenger depot to your left as you turn.
- Proceed approx. ¼ mile turn right onto “Old US HWY 70”.
- Follow Old US Hwy 70 approximately 2 – 2 ½ miles, turning RIGHT onto “Mill Creek Road”, there again will be signs for “Andrews Geyser”.
- Proceed on Mill Creek approximately another 2 – 2 ½ miles, during which you will go under a railroad underpass, you will then pass Andrew’s Geyser on your left and go under another railroad underpass after which you will cross a bridge.
- At the end of the bridge take the right fork, “Graphite Road”. Follow this road approximately ¼ mile, there will be a parking area to your left. There will also be other cars parked at this location. Park there and proceed across the bridge to “Base Camp”
- Follow the signs to the Main office to sign in.
Traveling on Interstate 40 East
- Take Exit 72 – Old Fort. You will be on Hwy 70 East.
- Proceed approx. ¼ - ½ mile, after crossing bridge with railroad tracks under, turn left onto “Old US HWY 70”. You will also see a sign for “Andrews Geyser”.
- Follow Old US Hwy 70 approximately 2 – 2 ½ miles, turning RIGHT onto “Mill Creek Road”, there again will be signs for “Andrews Geyser”.
- Proceed on Mill Creek approximately another 2 – 2 ½ miles, during which you will go under a railroad underpass, you will then pass Andrew’s Geyser on your left and go under another railroad underpass after which you will cross a bridge.
- At the end of the bridge take the right fork, “Graphite Road”. Follow this road approximately ¼ mile, there will be a parking area to your left. There will also be other cars parked at this location. Park there and proceed across the bridge to “Base Camp”.
- Follow the signs to the Main office to sign in.
From the Asheville Airport:
- Turn left at the light heading out of the Airport
- At the 3rd traffic light turn left onto I-26 West
- After passing Exit # 2- Brevard Road, you will stay in the right hand lane and follow the exit onto I-40 East. This bears to the right.
- You are now on I-40 East
- Traveling on I-40 East, you will pass Asheville, Black Mountain, Ridgecrest and then pass over the Eastern Continental Divide. Descend a 6-mile hill and take the first Old Fort Exit (#72).
- As you exit, you are automatically on US 70
- Follow US70 for ½ mile. You will pass over a river and railroad tracks.
- Turn left onto OLD US 70--there is a brown sign to Andrew’s Geyser
- Follow this winding country road for about 3 miles.
- Turn right onto Mill Creek Rd.
- Follow for approx. 3 miles (You will pass Andrew’s Geyser, and go under two single-lane railroad underpasses).
- Turn right onto Graphite Rd--if you miss it you will be on the gravel road!
- Pass Brookside Baptist Church on the right.
- In ¼ mile you will see a strip of vehicles on the left.
- Park here and cross the footbridge to the base camp.
- Follow the signs to the Main office to sign in.
Directions from Charlotte Douglas International Airport
- Interstate 77 North to Interstate 40 West
- Follow Interstate 40 West to Exit 73 (Old Fort)
- Proceed thru one red light, one caution light, turn left at next red-light.
- Proceed approximately ¼ mile, turn right onto Old US HWY 70. There will also be a sign for “Andrews Geyser”
- Follow this road approximately 2- 2 ½ miles, turn right onto Mill Creek Road. Here again there will be signs for “Andrews Geyser”
- Follow Mill Creek Road approximately 2 – 2 ½ miles, passing “Andrews Geyser” on your left, going under a railroad underpass and over a bridge.
- You will take the right fork at the end of the bridge. This is Graphite Road.
- Follow Graphite approximately ¼ mile, there will be a parking area on your left. Park there and proceed across the foot bridge.
- Follow the signs to the Main office to sign in.
