Philosophy Statement
At Phoenix Outdoor, we believe that a therapeutic outdoor environment, far removed from the stresses, pressures and distractions of daily life, is the ideal place for students to establish a foundation for long-term substance abuse recovery and lifelong success.
To ensure that all students receive the maximum benefit from our therapeutic wilderness experience, our programs and activities are based upon the following principles and philosophies:
- Individualized Attention – We maintain a small staff-to-student ratio (with at least one instructor for every three students in the field) to ensure that all students benefit from close supervision and personalized support. From the moment a student enrolls at Phoenix Outdoor, our professionals work to create an individualized treatment plan to meet that student’s unique needs.
- Active Participation – Phoenix Outdoor students are active contributing partners in their own growth and recovery. Our treatment professionals work with our students in a team effort that encourages students to take ownership of their development, responsibility for their decisions and accountability for their actions.
- Comprehensive Care – Our comprehensive curriculum was created to guide students in a phased progression through the goals and objectives of their treatment plan. Our innovative and unique programming features journaling exercises, therapeutic activities, an introduction to the 12 Steps, topics for group discussions and exercises that help the students reflect on the impact drugs and alcohol have had on their lives.
- Student Safety – The safety of our students is of paramount importance. Our wilderness therapy experts are certified in backcountry medicine, trained in risk management, and have significant experience in wilderness leadership. They operate under strict medical and safety protocols designed to eliminate risk and create a safe wilderness therapy experience.
Also, as a proud member of CRC Health Group, we embrace CRC’s five core values:
- Respect – for our patients, our employees, and our community
- Integrity – in our dealings with all those whose lives we touch
- Accountability – to our patients and their families, and to our colleagues
- Responsibility – for the decisions we make and the actions we take
- Excellence – in every task we perform
